A Fall Decluttering Reset!

A Fall Decluttering Reset!

There's something about fall that makes it feel like a good time to reset the house. Before we're stuck indoors for the next several months, clearing out some of the things we no longer use can make home feel a whole lot lighter.

Not sure where to start? Here are 15 easy targets.

The Kitchen
Take a look at expired pantry items, duplicate utensils, plastic containers without lids, water bottles nobody uses and the collection of coffee mugs multiplying in the cupboard.

The Bathroom
Old cosmetics, expired medications, nearly empty bottles and worn towels can take up a surprising amount of space.
*Be sure to dispose of medications properly rather than throwing them in the garbage.

Your Closet
If you didn't wear it last fall or winter, ask yourself whether you're actually going to wear it this year.
Coats, shoes, sweaters and accessories that are still in good condition can often be donated.

The Front Entry
This area becomes cluttered quickly once boots, coats, hats and gloves return. Clear out footwear that no longer fits and anything that's been sitting there untouched.

The Garage
Broken garden tools, empty boxes, old sports equipment, leftover renovation materials and things you've been keeping "just in case" are good places to start.

The Junk Drawer
Yes, that one. Old batteries, dried-out pens, mystery keys, takeout menus, receipts and random cords can probably be dealt with.

Kids' Stuff
Outgrown clothes, toys, sporting equipment and school supplies can pile up quickly. Pass along what still has plenty of life left.

Old Electronics
Phones, chargers, keyboards and outdated electronics are often forgotten in drawers and storage rooms. Look for a proper electronics recycling location rather than putting them in household garbage.

You don't need to declutter the entire house in one weekend. Pick one drawer, closet or room and start there.

Sometimes getting rid of just one bag of things you don't need makes the whole house feel better.
